The signature laptop just got the upgrade it deserves.
Apple's new Vision Pro headset really stole the show at its big WWDC 2023 summit on Monday. The annual developer conference is happening this week and aside from the brand's long awaited debut of an augmented reality headset, dubbed "spacial computing", there was one other launch we can't ignore: The new15-inch MacBook Air.
For years, the MacBook Air has been getting updates of higher-power computing, but it has never been offered with a screen larger than 13 inches. Now you can get the same portability you know and love from the lightweight MacBook Air, but with a 15.3" screen worthy of streaming, gaming, and multi-tasking. The best part is that, as of today, you can preorder the new MacBook on Amazon (orders will start shipping on June 13).
What makes this launch so great? Despite the larger screen size, it's still a MacBook Air, so finally, you won't be toting around a brick. It comes in at just 3.3 pounds and is 0.45" thick, which is half a pound heavier and 0.1" thicker than the 13-inch model (comparatively, the 16-inch 2023 MacBook Pro is 4.7 pounds)—negligible differences when you're carrying the computer around in your work bag or backpack all day long.
It's a seriously great laptop choice for commuters or frequent travelers, and now with a screen more comparable to a MacBook Pro, which means shows and movies, games, and photo and video editing apps are that much more viewable.
This updated MacBook also comes with Apple's M2 chip, which delivers a 1.4 times faster experience than the M1 chip models, the same Liquid Retina display we've come to know and love, plus up to 18 hours of battery life. The computer also has two Thunderbolt ports, a headphone jack (!) and a MagSafe charging port. It would have been nice to see more ports (this 15-inch model has the same ports as the 13-inch model), but we'll just cross our fingers to see that in the next update.
The laptop starts at $1,299 for 256GB of memory or $1,499 for the 512GB version. Post-WWDC is a great time to shop Apple too, with a host of products still on sale.
