Hot water bottle can help you sleep in UK heatwave
With soaring temperatures and sunny skies come sleepless nights and tired days, as many of us struggle to rest well when the mercury rises - but it turns out a hot water bottle could be the answer
When the mercury skyrockets like it has this week, a hot water bottle is probably the last thing you'd think to reach for.
But it could be well worth making the most of the winter accessory during warm weather, according to a pro.
Keen to help us keep our covers cool and get a good night's rest, the sleep experts at French Bedroom have shared how to utilise the bedroom staple during summer months.
As you might expect, you won't want to fill the bottles with hot water as usual. Instead, opt for ice-cold water - and reap the benefits.
The experts point out this can help to lower your body temperature and cool your sheets, helping you drift off to the land of sleep.
But there's plenty further steps you can take if you're still struggling to get some shut-eye.
For sleepers who don't want to forgo a duvet, consider swapping out winter bedding for a lower Tog-rated duvet between 1 - 4.5. Thin cotton sheets could also prove a cool but comfy middle ground.
Meanwhile, choosing natural fibre bedding like cotton, linen and silk sheets could save your sleep. The breathable quality of the material allows your skin to cool down and absorbs sweat.
Likewise, your pillow slip could be adding to your problems. It's also worth opting for a firm pillow rather than a fluffy option, as this shape will help heat to disperse.
And don't forget all the tips and tricks you can use to help cool down the rest of your bedroom throughout the day.
Last summer, this DIY ice cube hack proved popular with social media users, who discovered it's possible to replicate air conditioning even if you don't have a unit fitted in your home.
Simply pop ice cubes in a small pan you can place in front of your fan, and, voila, you'll feel the cool air circulating in no time.
