31 Best Everyday Handbags, According to Vogue Editors | Vogue

All products featured on Vogue are independently selected by our editors. However, we may earn affiliate revenue on this article and commission when you buy something.

While it might seem simple, the art of shopping for the best everyday handbags can be challenging to master. An item that’s functional and easily holds all of the essentials is non-negotiable when committing to a purchase, plus—if you ask us—it needs to be undeniably beautiful and versatile enough to seamlessly style with several outfits.

As Vogue editors, we’re constantly looking forward to discovering what’s new in the fashion world. But every now and then, we’ll come across an item that’s so good, we decide to make it a part of our daily wardrobes.

Ahead, we’ve asked 15 Vogue editors from around the globe to find out which handbags they gladly wear every day. While we all have unique personal styles, there’s one thing that we all have in common: We can’t say no to expertly crafted details. From Khaite’s studded tote to Dragon Diffusion and St. Agni’s artfully woven shoulder bags, discover the everyday handbags Vogue editors love, below.

It’s an all brown fall for me. I might love the Prada buckle bag more than my children but don’t tell them that! I also love Tod’s new Folio bag because it fits my kids’ water bottles and a laptop!

I am almost always carrying a small bag stuffed inside a larger bag to take me from day to night. My Coach empire tote holds an enormous amount—my laptop, a change of shoes, various chargers, and so on. I’ll also throw in a smaller bag, like this favorite from St. Agni, for the necessities (keys, wallet, phone). This method is not only practical, but also a fun play on the layered bags that have been all over the runways.

I have a few everyday bags I like to keep on rotation and I swap them around pending what I have planned for the day and what I am wearing. The slouchy Loewe Flamenco tote I’ve had for a few seasons now, it was one of the best The Real Real purchases I have made. The house doesn’t seem to be slowing down in that handbag family! The Coach Empire carryall has quickly become my go-to office tote. It’s the first bag I feel that makes carrying your laptop actually look chic, and I still like carrying when I’m traveling light. The Savette bucket and Khaite’s shoulder bag might be smaller in size, but surprisingly fit everything I need. The most important thing (not pictured here) is the pouch that holds all of my essentials so that I can transfer everything I need seamlessly between bags without a second thought!

My go-to bags are either quite large (for work) or quite small (weekend). My Dragon Diffusion totes are on rotation year-round, for office, travel, etc. I have them in a few sizes but have been wearing the dark brown Japan tote most lately! This Little Liffner bucket bag is a new addition. I somehow have no crossbodies in my closet, so I’ve been looking to add one to my repertoire. This Savette one is on my wish list—I was lucky to be able borrow it during New York Fashion Week and was pleasantly reminded of the joys of going hands-free in the city! Earlier this summer, I carried a woven Métier shoulder bag (the Cala) non-stop—I have been thinking about its suede and leather styles for fall and winter, particularly the large Private Eye which I find one of the chicest carry-alls around.

If there is an item that I get stopped about the most or receive the most compliments about, it’s this slouchy suede shoulder bag from Banana Republic. It looks as luxurious as it feels and is roomy enough to fit all of my necessary purse essentials. For an investment piece, I love Loewe’s Pebble bucket in this caramel suede.

"When it comes to work bags, I like to wear ones that make more of a statement than a traditional leather tote. Neous is one of my favorite contemporary brands for their play on the classics—this work tote has one side suede, and the other leather, with a modern bowling silhouette. My other go-to is Demellier London. Oversized, sumptuous, chic! It fits everything—from umbrellas and workout clothes to lunch! For everyday, I love a staple black bag with a twist. Like the details in Bottega's shoulder bag. It fits all my daily essentials but the intrecciato weaving adds a luxe intrigue. I have the vintage version of this one! Another favorite is the Tote du Jour Black from Manu Atelier. The slouchy shape is so in, and it hangs beautifully off the shoulder. I have it in cream and black!"

I’ve never been one for the typical “work bag”—for me, it’s about finding something I love that happens to work for work. Enter Balenciaga’s Le City Medium Bag. It’s the perfect size for a laptop and all the day-to-day essentials, and with the shoulder strap, it’s easy to carry around. Plus, it adds just the right amount of edge to make any outfit instantly cooler. (Pro tip: opt for a vintage version. Not only are they way more affordable, but they look even better with a bit of wear. Win-win!)

This is my new favorite vanity-style bag. It’s the perfect size for everyday, comes with a removable strap, and can add a lot of interest to a minimal look. I’m also a big fan of all things NDG, especially this nano number. The embossed, bandana–esque print is such a nice touch, as is the gold chain strap. I have it in red leather, but I may need to get the white shearling, too.

A classic suede bag is a must for fall, which is why I love the Incognito Large Cabas bag from Métier. It fits absolutely everything! It's also a cozy way to elevate a look and easily adds dimension, without being too plushy as we head towards winter months. I saw Kim Shui wearing one of her Fermi bags last week and decided I needed one too–so I cannot wait to get my hands on this! The color is perfect for fall, but the high-shine and size give it a fun twist that can take you from the coffee shop to cocktail hour.

For fall, I'm been eyeing a vintage Mark Cross bag—the Boston-based label is one of the US’s oldest brands and I am a sucker for heritage. I’ve never been an It Bag girl (why would I want to carry the same thing as my peers?) and so I tend to go vintage with my bags. How great is this top handle Mark Cross bag?

I think I’m enjoying my Bottega Veneta padded cassette bag a little too much this fall. I’ll carry it from yoga to the park to date night in the city—it’s that versatile. The best part is I borrowed it via Vivrelle, a luxury accessory rental program, that affords me a couture accessory on a rental budget. In one month’s time, I can swap this bag out for another style of my choice—though I may have a hard time letting it go.

I have an addiction to wearing black, so I need more than anything an accessory to make my outfit more interesting. The two bags I own that never fail to collect compliments are my Rouje Big Zebra Bag (P.S. Olivia Rodrigo was spotted sporting this recently!) and my Staud Tommy Beaded bag. What I love most about each bag is the space—my Tommy Beaded bag lets me unnecessarily carry around my digital camera from 2008, my inhaler, and at least three lip liner and gloss combo options. Lastly, allow me to geek out for a moment on the craftsmanship of the beading… Staud has a beaded design option for every personality and aesthetic!

If you went to high school on the Upper East Side I’m sorry if I’m triggering you, but I’m declaring it right now: we're seeing the return of the Hervé Chapelier nylon totes and I’m 100% on board. If you prefer to shop in a more circular way, plenty of amazing colorways can be found on Poshmark, Ebay, and Depop—or you can make like Vogue culture writer Marley Marius and head to Hervé Chapelier to pick up a fresh color combo in the exact size and shape you want (the bags come in XS, S, M, L, XL and square or rectangular bottom). You truly can't go wrong with one of these, and that’s why it has become my everyday handbag.

My go-to bag this season (and truly, every season) is a black vintage Chanel Classic Flap that I liberated from my mother’s closet, which never fails to channel my inner Coco or Audrey. Recently, however, my beloved Classic Flap has faced worthy competition from a new addition: a playful polka-dotted Khaite Elena bag that surprisingly complements just about everything. What a fabulous handbag dilemma!
